Helping you to become a better photographer

North Wales Photo Tour 15th-22nd May 2027
The Tour
Forty years ago, Sharon and I ‘went up’* to Aberystwyth to study and quickly fell in love with the rugged North Wales landscape of Eryri (as Snowdonia is now called). Now we want to take you on a tour of some of our favourite spots. We'll be based just outside the picturesque village of Beddgelert from where we will explore the wild Welsh countryside including Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon), Anglesey and the Glaslyn Valley.
Whilst this will primarily be a landscape photography tour, mid-May is a great time to capture the iconic bluebells in this part of the world. The Glaslyn River is home to a variety of birds including dippers, grey wagtails and mergansers, so bring your birding lens with you. The surrounding towns and villages also provide a number of photographic opportunities, especially Beddgelert with its colourful history.
We will be staying in a self-catered cottage at the western base of Yr Wyddfa where Sharon will keep us well fed for our daily excursions. The farm is just off the track of the Welsh Highland Steam Railway, offering us an opportunity to capture some great steam train images.
The island of Anglesey - reachable by the Menai Bridge - is home to the iconic Ynys Llanddwyn lighthouse and Pilots’ Cottages, great for a sunset shoot.

Your Workshop Leaders
Mike Page is a British-born landscape and nature photographer who has lived in southern Germany since 1990. Although he is more at home in the Alps in the meantime, his relationship with Wales started during his time studying at Aberystwyth in the 1980s. His fondness for the region was rekindled more recently when his son studied in South Wales. With a keen eye for light and a compelling composition, Mike is the heart and brains behind Mountain Photography Workshop. Here are some images from his and Sharon's last visit to Beddgelert in May 2023.

Andrew Galloway is a writer and photographer based in Manchester, England. His passion is the landscape and cultural history of the British Isles. He combines photography with a love of the written word, writing articles that draw on his extensive experience of exploring the hills and mountains of Britain. He has a portfolio of over a hundred published articles for UK outdoor lifestyle magazines including The Great Outdoors, Cumbria Magazine, Cymdeithas Eryri (Snowdonia Society), Camping Magazine and Lakeland Walker. His current project is providing the images for the 111 Places in Cheshire guidebook to be published by Emons in 2026.
